Background to Ocean Buildings
Mermaid Quay is a family-friendly area, with cafes, restaurants and ice-cream parlours mixed in with lots of things to do and see. You may like to begin your stay with a visit to the 'Tube', more formally known as the Cardiff Bay Visitor Centre. Here you will find regular film shows describing both the history, and the present features of the city. The large city model you will find at the 'Tube' is useful for pinpointing the attractions you would most like to visit, while the staff are happy to provide assistance in making your choices. While there, notice how close your accommodation is to the Red Dragon Centre, with its multiplex cinema, 26 lane 10-pin bowling, Doctor Who Exhibition, and many restaurants. The Techniquest hands-on science exhibition is also close by, with the 'Road Train' waiting to take you on a tour of the 500 acre freshwater Bay, and lock gates of the Bay Barrage.
Gold Award
These apartments offer all that you'll find in a Silver Award apartment, but are typically larger in size with the addition of even more luxurious furnishings and often a water view with large balcony/terrace. Free broadband and extra towels make these Gold in every sense of the word.
